Located off Shoreline Drive, the Merrilltown Cemetery is a historic burial ground dating back to the 1850’s. Buried amongst the dead are veterans of military conflicts and a Texas Ranger. The cemetery has never had a flag flying over the grounds. Two members of the local American Legion recognized the need to honor those Veterans and reached out to our agency for help.

On a cold and blustery Saturday in February, Public Safety Cadets Post #711 and Criminal Justice interns from Navarro Early College High School along with Constable Ballesteros and the Pct. 2 team installed a flagpole at the cemetery as a Community Improvement project. The Cadets also picked up trash and debris from the area in an effort to beautify the grounds.

We look forward to a dedication ceremony in the near future.
